As the Senior Legal Counsel and Director of Access & Privacy, you are accountable for the overall performance, strategic direction and legal integrity of the Calgary Police Service's (CPS) Access & Privacy section. This position provides legal advice to the Chief of Police and various Leadership positions and ensures access and privacy practices remain legally sound and operationally effective. Primary responsibilities include: • Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide legal expertise and support legislative initiatives.
Qualifications • A Bachelor of Laws degree and an active member of the Law Society of Alberta in good standing, or eligibility to become a member of the Society, and a minimum of 8 years experience practicing in the areas of privacy and litigation.
• Minimum of 3 years leadership experience, including supervising direct reports and providing advice to senior management.
• Experience working in a unionized environment, public sector, law enforcement, and/or justice-based environment is considered an asset.
• Experience working in a professional regulatory context is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated knowledge and competency on privacy, disclosure or information-governance issues involving law enforcement records, investigative records, youth records, domestic conflict records, organized crime information or other high-risk records is considered an asset.
